a conversation with carrier and company

It's Friday...and I'm ready to sleep in (preferably in one of Carrier and Company's beautiful bedrooms below)! We've had a productive, inspiring, and just plain BUSY week.  My mind is still spinning with ideas from last weekend's Nashville Antiques & Garden show.

This year's show was especially impactful for me, as I think about long term goals. Sometimes as a designer we get caught up in the "day to day" of trying to get it all done (proposals, client meetings, design, accounting).  Stopping for a weekend to enjoy the beauty of the Antiques & Garden show and take it all in (so many amazing design panels), was just what we needed. There is nothing like hearing directly from other designers that inspire you.

I was instantly enamored with the understated elegance of husband and wife design team Carrier and Company.  Of course, as part of a husband and wife design team....there was just so much I could relate to.

I was lucky enough to be invited to sit down with the Carrier's for what was intended to be an "interview"....but honestly felt more like great dinner conversation with dear friends.

We chatted about their design process (each takes the lead on a project depending on who connects best to the project/client), aesthetic (understated elegance that is both timeless and contemporary), but maybe even more importantly about life (they met at FIT while both in design school and formed a business together to take control of their busy schedules and have more quality family time), children and career advice (get to work on a design book STAT).  Needless to say...I left feeling motivated and inspired.

We knew instantly after scouring their book Positively Chic Interiors that we would love this creative couple....but I promise, we left our "interview" even more enamored and inspired by this dynamic design duo. Couldn't you just move right in to this South Hampton beauty (featured below)........I call the little bedroom with the garden view.

We've been working on a number of bathroom and kitchen designs this month.... and are loving how beautiful patterned tiles add instant personality to a space (think waterproof wallpaper for the kitchen and bathroom). We recently sourced these "Chapman and Stripe Stone" tiles from the Artisan Collection at Stone Impressions for a client project.....and love that they are in stock and ready to ship (directly from California) and won't break the bank.

Scroll down below to see how we used these amazing statement tiles to create a "drool worthy guest bathroom" and "colorful kitchen" for two of our recent "Design to Go" clients. We've even included our sources so that you can "recreate the look" at home! Happy renovating!
