We're excited to reveal one of our favorite commercial projects to date - the distillery for George Dickel Whisky in beautiful Normandy, Tennessee (about an hour outside Nashville)! You may have seen Dickel pop up on our Instagram, as they’ve become great friends and amazing Pencil & Paper Co. collaborators. Today we're sharing Phase One of the renovations at George Dickel Distillery at Cascade Hollow. We partnered with the Dickel brand team to dream up their new General Store, create a new assortment of retail goods and to build out a new Tasting Room called Dupp's, where visitors to Dickel can sample the whisky that is made just across the road.
The design for the space was inspired by the ditillery's idyllic, rural setting and pays homage to the brand's storied past (George Dickel started bottling whisky back in the 1870's!). At Pencil & Paper Co., we love the challenge of blending "old" and "new" to create something original—at Dickel we had our work cut out for us and couldn't be happier with the finished product!!
Just across the street from the Dupp's Tasting Room and the General Store is the distillery itself where George's whisky is still hand-made by a small team of dedicated craftspeople, without the use of computers or technology. If you are in or around Nashville, make time to stop by the distillery for a tour and tasting (Open 9am - 4:30, 7 days-a-week except holidays). It's a charming place and the folks in the Hollow are really kind. Don't forget to grab a signature Dickel trucker cap on your way out!
Fun Fact: George Dickel spelled "whisky" with no "e" (the traditional Scottish spelling) on purpose. George believed that his whisky was exceptional and crafted with an eye towards the Scotch art of distilling.
Below, we've rounded up a few items you can shop that are inspired by the space!
